We regret to inform you that Avalon Labs is no longer providing blood and urine collection services.
Avalon Laboratories is the largest commercial lab in Newfoundland & Labrador. Locally owned, we offer medical and environmental services. Our state-of-the-art facility in St. John’s has 14,000 ft2 of space, with designated molecular diagnostics, clinical biochemistry, hematology, microbiology, and toxicology laboratories. Our testing and analytical services have helped thousands of regional, national, and international businesses make critical decisions.
Who We Serve
Our Environmental Lab provides toxicology and food safety services to clients spanning many industries including healthcare, energy, mining, environmental, food processing, fish harvesting, aquaculture, transportation, and forestry.
Trusted
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Avalon established itself as a trusted, capable, and competent diagnostic laboratory by providing private molecular COVID-19 testing services to business, individuals, travellers, and Newfoundland & Labrador’s Regional Health Authorities. As part of the province’s pandemic response, Avalon supported the provincial economy by keeping businesses operating, workers safe, and communities healthy. Every major corporation in the province used Avalon’s services at some point. And when Nova Scotia, Ontario, and British Columbia needed more testing capacity, they turned to Avalon. In all, Avalon conducted more than 150,000 COVID-19 tests.
Committed to Quality
Our commitment to providing reliable data begins at the front door with secure receipt of your samples.
Our Quality Manager works closely with our team – all of whom work to ensure the accuracy of your results – every step along the way.
Our staff employ clinical best practices, and our labs routinely participate in all assessments required by regulatory bodies.
Guarding Health Information
Avalon is committed to the protection and proper documentation of all patient / personal health information as a custodian under the Privacy Health Information Act (PHIA). Our data storage, processing, and result distribution adhere to all standards outlined under the Act.
Avalon works closely with medical occupational health service providers and follows strict procedures to ensure the confidential and proper flow of health information from sample collection to reporting. All staff members are required to complete industry-leading KnowBe4 cyber security training and to be conscientious about the Personal Health Information Act.
Protecting Corporate Information
Avalon’s Environmental Lab follows strict procedures for proper documentation of sample collection, receipt, and registration. This includes the use of multiple identifiers to ensure accurate sample identification and traceability. Once properly received, each sample’s traceability is maintained internally by our Laboratory Information System (LIS), which provides documentation of all aspects of the testing process. Results are verified and approved by our staff, and results are fully encrypted and securely delivered to clients via the LIS.
Microbiology Lab Only One of Its Kind
Our microbiology lab – the only one of its kind in Newfoundland & Labrador – operates 7 days a week. It delivers product quality assurance testing and shelf-life studies as well as routine microbiological and food chemistry analyses. We test food, water, and environmental samples.
Toxicology – Protecting the Environment
Our toxicology lab routinely conducts bioassays on effluents from resource-based industries as part of their environmental compliance requirements. We also perform toxicity tests on sediment for Environmental Effects Monitoring programs.
