Avalon Laboratories Inc. is Newfoundland and Labrador’s only fully certified analytical lab. We provide food pathology and safety testing, water quality analysis, toxicology testing, COVID testing, as well as testing for the oil & gas industry.

 

Duties

  • •. Accurately enter data into corresponding fields using software supplied
  • •. Identify and correct data entry errors using appropriate quality-control methods
  • •. Other administrative duties as required

 

Qualifications

  • •  High school diploma
  • •. 1-year office administration program and 2 years’ data entry experience or equivalent
  • •. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • •. Ability to enter data into a computer quickly and accurately
  • •. Comfortable with office equipment including a computer, telephone, scanner, calculator, and photocopier

 

Compensation

$16-$20 / hour

 

Hours of Work

9am – 5pm (shift work also available)

We are currently seeking Medical Laboratory Technologists for our growing operation.

 

Responsibilities

 

Our Medical Laboratory Technologists handle and prepare Covid-19 samples for extraction and analysis using automated equipment and specialized instrumentation. They perform numerous tests simultaneously and are responsible for accurately interpreting and reporting the results. Testing could extend to other complex specimens of immunologic, biologic, bacteriologic, hematologic, and chemical composition.

 

Medical Laboratory Technologists work with infectious specimens and must follow infection control and sterilization protocols to minimize the hazards. Successful candidates will be required to demonstrate knowledge of effective safely protocols and procedures.

 

Medical Laboratory Technologists:

 

  • •. Use PCR technology to perform molecular extractions and assays
  • •. Prepare and sort specimens for technical analysis
  • •. Compile results and perform data analyses for various laboratory tests
  • •. Prepare cultures of test samples as required
  • •. Establish and monitor programs that ensure data accuracy
  • •. Analyze lab reports for accuracy
  • •. Deliver test results to the lab supervisor and /or client as required
  • •. Work alongside or interact with medical practitioners, physicians, researchers, and patients
  • •. Prepare reagents and solutions and clean and sterilize lab equipment
  • •. Carry out document control and complete quality records and documents
  • •. Properly operate and maintain equipment and perform equipment calibrations

 

Qualifications

 

  • •. Successful completion of a two- or three-year college program in medical laboratory technology or equivalent
  • •. Employed as a medical laboratory technologist for a minimum of __ years
  • •. Currently registered with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Medical Laboratory Sciences or eligible for registration
  • •. Demonstrates initiative and carries out periodic tasks independently
  • •. Experience with implementing and maintaining industry-standard quality systems including ISO ISO / IEC 17025:2017 and relevant quality practices
  • •. Maintains an orderly, tidy, and organized working environment
  • •. Organizes and prioritizes your own work and develops plans based on daily assigned laboratory schedules
  • •. Has detailed knowledge of laboratory methods and equipment
  • •. Comfortable using Microsoft Word
  • •. Able to learn specific, practical techniques and apply this knowledge to solve technical problems
  • •. Possesses superior time management skills
  • •. Pays strict attention to detail
  • •. Able to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines

 

Compensation

 

$65,500 and up + signing bonus and annual bonus

LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE

LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE

3- to 6-month term – position may become permanent

 

Avalon Laboratories Inc. is Newfoundland and Labrador’s only fully certified private medical (ISO: 15189) and environmental lab. We provide COVID testing, food pathology and safety testing, water quality analysis, and toxicology testing as well as testing for the oil & gas industry. We are located in St. John’s.

 

We are seeking an LPN to assist in our COVID-19 screening efforts.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • •. To assess, develop, implement, and evaluate Covid-19 screening care for patients
  • •. To autonomously initiate emergency interventions as patient condition dictates
  • •. To provide nasopharyngeal and / or oropharyngeal swabbing process without supervision within the level of experience, referring to the Covid Coordinator as necessary
  • •. To record, handle, manage, and document all samples and bring to COVID lab for testing
  • •. To maintain accurate records, both electronic and paper, of the screening of each individual patient given in accordance with agreed standards
  • •. To work closely with the COVID lab team, COVID Lab director and COVID Lab Coordinator, Public Health, Infection Control Team, Covid-19 Scheduling Team, and Quality Manager for Emergency Care
  • •. To independently liaise and communicate effectively with customers, patients, other collectors, and staff members on a daily basis for COVID-testing purposes
  • •. To check clinical details to ensure they match the patient being swabbed
  • •. To take part in in-house annual mandatory training in all required areas of health and safety
  • •. To assist in the learning, development, and assessment of unqualified staff, junior staff, and the wider, multi-disciplinary team
  • •. To undertake community Covid-19 information updates where required and to work with the COVID Coordinator to ensure all information, internal and external, is up to date

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • •. Successful completion of the Licensed Practical Nurse program
  • •. Licensure with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses Newfoundland & Labrador

 

Compensation

 

$30-$32 / hour
