Avalon Laboratories is the first and only private medical lab in Newfoundland & Labrador, and Atlantic Canada to provide pre-employment and other employment-related blood and urine testing services to medical occupational health service providers. Our test menu includes screening for general health and screening for drug and alcohol / substance of abuse.

Testing for life insurance underwriters

We are also the first lab in Newfoundland & Labrador and Atlantic Canada to offer blood and urine tests for life insurance underwriters to help them understand an applicant’s baseline health.

Avalon provides a suite of medical diagnostic services covering blood chemistry, immunology, hematology, and toxicology from our state-of-the-art 14,000 ft² facility, conveniently located minutes from St. John’s International Airport.

Keeping Data Private and Secure

Avalon maintains the privacy of your clients’ data and follows a strict chain of custody protocol. Our HL7-based Laboratory Information System tracks patient specimens and results seamlessly, securely, and accurately. All client data is housed on internally monitored, secure Azure-cloud-based servers. Results are encrypted and securely delivered to clients using our Laboratory Information System.

Medical testing services are delivered by our highly qualified Medical Laboratory Technologists, whose work is overseen by our Medical Director, Clinical Biochemist, and Laboratory Director.

Avalon Laboratories uses a LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) with a highly encrypted support platform to manage confidential information. LIMS data storage, processing, and result distribution are performed using a trusted cloud provider and adhere to all standards outlined in the Newfoundland and Labrador Personal Health Information Act.
